Samsung is accused of deliberately reducing the performance of its Galaxy smartphones. According to testimonials, the phones deliver more power when a benchmark application is open. Users accuse Samsung of trying to cheat.
For the past few days, there were accusations that Samsung is limiting the performance of its smartphones. According to several testimonials on the web, the brand reduces the power of the chipset when certain applications are open. Several mobile games are facing this slowdown.
On the other hand, Samsung allows the SoC of its smartphones to deliver all the power available when a benchmarking application is open. Many Internet users have indeed realized that it was enough to change the name of a game to that of a benchmark app to obtain much better performance.
For example, people on the South Korean Clien forum noticed a performance boost while playing Genshin Impact by renaming the game “Geekbench”. Several popular videographers on YouTube agree and ensure that the performance offered by several recent smartphones, including the Galaxy S22, is concerned.

Apparently, Samsung has built a feature into its overlay firmware to slow down performance when opening certain Android apps. On Twitter, a South Korean user claims that more than 10,000 applications are affected. The Clien forum community dug into the phones’ code to uncover the full list of restricted apps.
“Samsung created an app called GOS and used the app to limit game performance, making the gaming experience worse. However, according to what the Korean community found out today; Samsung confirmed that it has put performance limits on more than 10,000 apps… ” Says a user called Garyeon Han, assuring that this practice has angered employees of the brand.
According to information obtained by the Internet user and the South Korean blog Naver, it seems that Samsung has launched an internal investigation into the matter. The blog claims that the manufacturer should officially discuss the matter in the near future.

This is not the first time that a manufacturer has been limiting the performance of its phones. Last year, OnePlus admitted to limiting the power of its phones in order to preserve battery life.
“Samsung employees are also criticizing this as bad behavior, referring to Volkswagen’s Dieselgate. Accordingly, Samsung has launched an investigation; and there are rumors that Samsung’s Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong is also moving” added Garyeon Han.
